"Pył" or "Dust" is a Polish first-person shooter for MS-DOS and Windows which was released in 1998.

It was developed by only four people under the label "Optimus Nexus". Compared to other contemporary productions, the plot of the game is complex and the gameplay is difficult in some places, and the level of difficulty of the puzzles is quite crisp.

In addition to the normal software renderer, the specially developed graphics engine also supports the Glide interface from 3dfx. Unfortunately, the game was never distributed outside of Poland and is therefore relatively unknown in the rest of the world.

STORY:

The action takes place in the distant year 2798. Mankind has colonized many planets in the meantime. But war breaks out between the ruling galactic empire and the many colonies that have joined together to form a federation. After years of fighting, the Federations and Empire have agreed to take their fighting differently. Namely on a distant moon, called "Arena". Over the decades this has become the scene of battles and fights between the parties. Over time, the Empire has taken full control and "Arena" has become a place of exile for scum and outlaws. As a player you take on the roles of two former Empire Elite soldiers named "Sope" and "Jafo" who have to make their way to "Arena" after their release. Always in the fight for survival and in search of the remains of ancient artifacts from past battlefields with which they can secure their livelihood and to be able to flee from this place again one day.

This time we look to the Czech Republic in the "GAMES FROM THE OTHER EAST" category. The following title is called "Colony 28" and is an exclusive PC game for MS-DOS.

"Colony 28" was developed 1997 by Napoleon Games and published by "JRC Interactive". It was initially developed by a team called "5th Dimension" under the direction of Martin Matějka. Matějka then merged with "Napoleon Games" a little later. The game is a combination of a 2D action platform and an adventure game in a sci-fi setting. The player controls a combat robot which has various weapons available to get rid of his opponents. In each level there are several tasks that have to be fulfilled and at the end there is also an end boss waiting for you. The optics impress with pre-rendered 3D graphics and intermediate sequences. The level of difficulty is quite crisp and the story is very extensive. Back then, the game brought a breath of fresh air to the Czech gaming scene. After more or less successful games from the workshops of local companies, the first professional work came, which could finally satisfy the discerning player. Unfortunately, it was never released outside of the Czech Republic.

STORY:

In 2013, planet Earth was attacked by an unknown alien race that enslaved humanity and drove the entire population to labor camps. The earth was named Colony 28 and some people were transformed into obedient androids or cyborgs by means of control chips to work for the aliens. Five years after the invasion, a laser beam hits a van and crashes. There was a cyborg in the transporter, which malfunctioned after the crash. As a result, he regains his memories and from then on he turns against the aliens and helps the human resistance.

TRIVIA:

The game's soundtrack is available in the S3M Tracker module format in the game directory.

I dedicate the first article in the category "GAMES FROM THE OTHER EAST" to the Korean PlayStation 2 exclusive title "Mystic Nights" or also "미스틱 나이츠".

The game was developed by the studio "N-Log Soft" and distributed directly by Sony. It's a typical action horror survival game and was also the first game by a Korean developer for this platform. The development time was 3 years. It was also the first game to support PS2 online functionality. This allowed 4 players to play together in the so-called "X-Man mode" at the same time. In the mode, a "traitor" has to prevail against three other players. In the single player mode the game has 3 different endings. The title was unfortunately never published outside of Korea.

STORY:

The plot of "Mystic Nights" takes place in a secret laboratory in a research facility where various experiments were carried out. After an explosion, the laboratory is overrun by monsters and creatures. The main character and other survivors of the explosion are now trying to escape from the facility. In the course of the story it turns out that the explosion was not a coincidence and that there is a murderer among the survivors.
